Do you ever have a burning sensation in your chest at night? It is an uncontrollable feeling in your chest and a funny taste in the back of your mouth. Then you have Acid Reflux Disease. This is usually worse at night when you lie down and can keep you awake! Believe it or not there are many home remedies which can help you with the pain.

There are ordinary items which you find in your kitchen cupboards at home which can help you to overcome the burning sensation in your chest and the taste at the back of your mouth.

The heartburn on acid reflux is caused by acid. Reflux means that it comes back up into your throat from your stomach. And because your throat and oesophagus are not meant to have to deal with acidic conditions, you can feel it as a burning sensation. You don't feel the acid in your stomach because it is well equipped to deal with the acid and you don't even notice that your stomach is full of acid - until it decides to come back up that is!

So you feel a burning sensation in your chest and then you can taste your stomach juices in the back of your throat. Wow, it is making me feel ill just thinking about it!

Our modern diets can have a little too much acid for our own good. The first step, if you have acid reflux is to look at what you are eating. If this is the first time you have had it, then maybe that meal you had last night might be to blame. If you have it on a regular basis then it might be a good idea to keep a food diary for a while to see where the acid has started to creep in. Acid occurs in some fruits and drinks. Some food can also be harder to digest, or if you eat more than normal, then more acid is produced in your stomach.

Next, we can add calming things to our diets to help calm the acidic conditions. The opposite of acidic is alkaline. And luckily, many food items which are just as good for us are alkaline. Fruits such as figs, apples and bananas can help in the condition and also a chocolate - taken in moderation can help to overcome the acidity. It's not s bad after all!

In summary then, Acid reflux disease is commonly characterized by heartburn or a burning sensation in the chest which usually occurs after a meal or when lying down on your back. Acid reflux disease may also complicate the voice box, and the throat causing them to inflame. It is certainly a serious medical condition.

The ideal for someone suffering from acid reflux disease is to find more ordinary items that can be added into your regular diet in order to feel less like you are taking medication to control your problem. For instance, there are certain types of ordinary apples that provide long term relief simply from adding a couple of slices to your dessert menu.
