Simple Treatments With Home Remedy For Acid Reflux

by Richal Peyton

Acid reflux is generally a common gastro-intestinal condition suffered by many today. The first step to curing acid reflux effectively is to detect its signs and symptoms for early treatment. Since this condition has a lot to do with the acid and enzymes in your stomach, people often look into a home remedy for acid reflux, which can be a special diet or activity. Let's take a look at the three most popular options for natural acid reflux treatments.

Diet For Acid Reflux

A quick home remedy for acid reflux is drinking milk. This is especially good for those who are experiencing acid reflux for the first time. However, this is not a permanent solution, as milk can cause a rebound effect after some time.

Take small frequent meals. For instance, you can have 3 medium-sized meals throughout the day plus 2 snacks in between. When eating 3 large meals in one day, your stomach tends to build up excess acid during the long hours before those meals.

Scheduling meals is not enough. You need to avoid high-fat foods and instead eat more complex carbohydrates like breads, rice, and pasta. These kinds of foods are able to tie up extra acid and are much gentler on your stomach. On the other hand, high-fat foods tend to stay much longer in the stomach, therefore forcing the stomach to secrete more acid. Finally, limit your alcohol intake, as alcohol like beer can double acid production in your stomach in just 1 hour!

Herbs For Acid Reflux

Another home remedy for acid reflux is taking herbs such as chamomile, gentian and ginger. You can couple these herbs with your acid reflux diet to sooth stomach muscles and other unwanted symptoms. The benefit of using herbs is that they tend to have no harsh side effects and can be used for the long term.

Activities For Acid Reflux

Not only will you need to ease symptoms and help the stomach regain its health, but you'll also need to maintain overall health. There's no point in treating acid reflux once and then going back to your old habits. If you'd like to get rid of acid reflux for good, exercise regularly and try some de-stressing techniques.

Stress is already a major factor in causing a myriad of other diseases, so you'd want to lower down your daily stress as much as possible. The best thing about physical activity is that it doesn't cause adverse side effects and nor does it cost a thing. When you exercise your body naturally releases endorphins, which aid in digestion and also help you feel mentally and physically better. You may do mild exercises (avoid strenuous exercises) like walking and relaxation techniques such as stretching and yoga.

Before taking medications for acid reflux, try taking steps to natural home remedy for acid reflux first. This is because it often has no side effects, is safer for long-term use, and benefits the whole body as a preventive treatment. Before trying out any of the treatments mentioned, consult your doctor first.

Are You Curing Your Acid Reflux or Making It WORSE?

If you're making the same deadly mistakes as most other heartburn sufferers, you might control and get rid of your heartburn temporarily, but eventually your acid reflux and your health will get worse in the long run. Your acid reflux condition is just way too complex for these "ordinary" pills and over the counters to ever work.

You can't overcome such a profound internal problem using drugs and antacids - You can't fool your body - you have to work with your internal system, not against it, by fixing the root cause!

WARNING: Long Term Use Of Prescription Drugs and Antacids Will Worsen Your Acid Reflux Condition and

May Lead To Dangerous Complications

The vast majority of prescription drugs, not just those aimed at treating heartburn, can severely damage your delicate natural internal balance, interfere with liver function, build up toxins in your body, slow down your metabolism and lead to serious side effects. British medical scientists have recently linked PPI drugs to Osteoporosis (bone loss). Additionally, taking more than one medication in many cases results in serious reactions between the different drugs as one drug can change or even worse, enhance the effect of the other drug. This can lead to harmful consequences.

It is well known that Drugs like Prilosec, Prevacid or Nexium aimed at treating acid reflux are to be taken for a period of no more than 8 weeks. The reason for that is that these drugs if taken for longer periods can actually stimulate your stomach to produce extra amounts of acid. This occurs because of a hormone called Gastrin, which is produced by the body when these drugs are taken. Over production of Gastrin can often lead to cancer in the esophagus or pancreas as cells in these areas grow too large as a reaction to the over production of Gastrin.

Not only do Antacids such as Tums, Pepcid, Zantac, and Rolaids deal with the symptoms of acid reflux and not with the underlying cause, antacids can also lead to high blood pressure, Alzheimer's Disease and even cancer. Moreover, breaking up the acid in the stomach can eventually make your heartburn worse, since stomach acid helps us absorb nutrients and is the first line of defense against candida (which can lead to acid reflux and heartburn).

Do you suffer from acid reflux, heartburn, hiatal hernias, gastritis, esophageal reflux or bile reflux? If so, you may have just found an article that is going to help you discover the best reflux home remedy available.

An Apple

After suffering several nights of heartburn in a row, one night it didn't occur (you know waking you up about 1/2 hour after you got to sleep and not letting you get back to sleep until the early hours of the morning...)
What was the difference, what had changed, the only thing I could think of was I'd eaten an apple that night about an hour after dinner. I tried it again and it worked it seemed to stop this particular series of heartburn attacks, I chose not to have an apple the next night and back it came, so back onto the apples I went, after about a week I tried not eating an apple again and the heartburn did not occur, so I had found a way of stopping a short term, recurring bout of heartburn I was excited After this I started looking for more Heartburn remedies

More Acid Reflux Remedies I found

1. Soft Food! Consuming soft foods allow your esophagus and sphincter to heal. By healing both tissues of these systems, you can fully cure your reflux problem.

2. Avoid Crunchy Foods! Nuts, crackers, toast, popcorn, cookies, breakfast cereals will make your reflux situation worse by scratching your Lower Esophageal Sphincter .

3. Avoid Spicy and Acidic Foods! Spicy and Acidic foods can aggravate your Lower Esophageal Sphincter and cause heartburn. To prevent this from happening, stay away from these foods, as well as alcohol, beer and soft drinks.

4. We all love coffee! But coffee actually does damage to the esophagus and sphincter. Moderate (1 cup) each day.

5. Drink Water! You should try to drink one tall glass of water after every meal. Water works wonders because it actually flushes the muscle flap that keeps your stomach acid and food down in your stomach.

All of this was great but I really want ed to start looking for a long term solution so I could go back to living the lifestyle I enjoyed, finally I found Heartburn No More (tm).
This book was the final solution to my heartburn problems, now I can eat what I want again without worrying about being woken up in pain in the night.

How to be able eat what you want

If you like many people have had to give up on eating some of your favourite foods such as Curries, Thai, Malaysian, Mexican and other spiced yet flavourful food due to the heartburn they caused. And you have spent a fortune on antacids and indigestion tables, drank pints of milk and tried other methods to try to reduce the pain caused by heartburn.

Those whom suffer from heartburn will know exactly what I'm talking about; the feeling like someone has poured fire down your throat is not something I would recommend to anyone.

So how do you finally get some release from this ongoing penance of bland food?

Well finally there help at hand with the e-book

"Heartburn No More".

This ebook takes you through a holistic approach at curing heartburn.

What is holistic health, you say I don’t want any “new agey rubbish”?

Well Holistic health and fitness methods view achieving and maintaining good health as requiring more than just taking care of the various singular components that make up the physical body.

This means that not feeling sick, does not necessary mean you are well. When symptoms develop, it is often long after the cause of the symptoms occurred.

The Holistic approach focuses on the cause. So instead of just focusing on one part of the body system, i.e. the digestive track, and pumping yourself full of antacids to relieve the pain the body as a whole is examined to help with the solution.

Using this method you can finally get away from your bland diet and go back to the food you love, and stop giving your money to the pharmaceutical companies out there only after a quick buck instead of solving the problem.

The ability to save you money when every time you open the news you see another story about banks and high street firms going bankrupt is a godsend.

Immediate ways of Managing Your Heartburn

You can find some quick relief from your heartburn with a few self-care remedies.

Try these out:

Eat frequent smaller meals instead of three larger ones.

This will help prevent excessive production of stomach acid.

Eat slowly.

One way to help you slow down while eating is to put your fork or spoon down between bites.

Don't go to bed with a full stomach.

Stay up at least three hours after eating your last meal or large snack before going to bed. This gives acid levels a chance to decrease before your body is in a position where heartburn is more likely to occur.

Raise the head of your bed several inches.

With your head elevated, it will help prevent reflux during the night.

Avoid your heartburn triggers.

Examples of foods and beverages that can trigger heartburn are coffee (including decaf), alcohol, fatty foods, caffeine-containing beverages and foods, onions, peppermint, chocolate, citrus fruits or juices, tomatoes.

Stop smoking.

Nicotine can weaken the lower esophageal sphincter, the muscle that controls the opening between the esophagus and stomach and prevents the acid-containing contents of the stomach from entering the esophagus.

Wear looser-fitting clothes.

Tight clothing squeezes the midsection and tends to push stomach contents upward.

Lose weight.

If you are overweight, losing weight can help relieve your symptoms.

Chew gum.

Chewing gum can provide short-term heartburn relief by stimulating the production of saliva, which dilutes and flushes out stomach acid.

Drink warm liquids.

Drinking a glass of lukewarm water or herbal tea after a meal can dilute and flush out stomach acid.

Is Heartburn Serious?

Is Heartburn Serious? this is the big question we all worry about especially when suffering a extreme case in the middle of the night. Through our minds we are thinking something this painful cannot not be good....

If you suffer from mild heartburn you may consider it more of a nuisance than a condition that can cause any serious complications. But if it occur frequently such as in chronic sufferers (episodes occurring several times a week or more frequently), if it's left untreated can lead to severe complications.

For people who suffer from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), heartburn can be chronic, and severe. With the passage of time, chronic acid reflux causes enough serious damage to the lower esophagus to generate a state known as Barrett's esophagus and possibly cancer. This explains why a rapid intervention to resolve GERD is imperative. Other than heartburn, acid reflux can also be detected by a salty taste in the oral cavity, dry coughs, nauseous sensations, recurring hoarseness and nocturnal bouts of asthma.

If you think you have a chronic case of Heartburn or GERD see your doctor, don't just look for solutions online!!

You may find a solution online but get it checked out properly in case it is something else!!!!

What is Heartburn?

You've enjoyed a big meal and are relaxing in bed ready for sleep and suddenly, a burning sensation begins to build in the upper abdomen, behind the breastbone, and makes your chest and throat feel like it's had acid poured down it. The burning and pain may travels from your diaphragm all the way to your throat, and there is that sour taste and the sensation of food re-entering your mouth.

You're suffering from heartburn.

First thing you should realise is that despite the name, it has nothing to do with the heart. It's a digestive problem that occurs when stomach acid comes into contact with the lining of the esophagus, causing irritation.

Most people suffer from heartburn occasionally, usually after a meal.

Is you heartburn serious?

If you have heartburn once a month, it's considered mild. If you have heartburn once a week, it's moderate. It's when your heartburn occurs daily that it's considered to be severe.

About 20% of all adults will have heartburn at least once a month. often you can manage these uncomfortable episodes with a change in diet, over-the-counter antacids and weight lose.

Even if you suffer from moderate heartburn you can often find relief with these remedies. But for many people , the heartburn is severe. For those people, the simple remedies, good for mild heartburn, give only partial or temporary relief.

What Causes Heartburn?

Heartburn is caused when stomach acid refluxes--backs up--into the esophagus. This can occur for a number of reasons:

  • When the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the valve that keeps stomach acid in the stomach, is weakened or relaxed and doesn't do its job properly. This is the most common symptom of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).
  • Certain foods, such as chocolate, fried and fatty foods, peppermint, coffee, alcohol, sugars, can weaken or relax the LES.
  • Eating large meals or shortly before bedtime.
  • A hiatal hernia.
  • Pressure on the stomach, including frequent bending over, tight clothes, lifting, obesity.
  • Certain medications.
  • Smoking.
  • Stress can increase acid production and slow down the emptying of the stomach.

Introduction

Hi I thought I should start this blog off with a bit of an introduction.
My Name is Ian McGregor

I have in the past been a sufferer of HeartBurn (or Acid Reflux), and as a martial artist and generally interested in my health and well being I decided I really wanted to be rid of it.
Thankfully I was never a chronic sufferer of this condition, but it was bad enough as it was, keeping me awake at night, the pain and keeping my wife awake (now thats dangerous enough... :-) ).

I tried many different solutions over time, most of them only temporary, but finally I was able to be rid of it completely by following one book, Heartburn No More (tm).

I hope you 'll find some helpfull information here
